What the Room Volume Calculator actually calculates

Length times width times height gives a rectangular room's volume, converted with 35.3147 cubic feet per cubic metre. Furniture and internal obstructions are not subtracted. Volume alone does not determine ventilation, heating, or cooling capacity, which also depends on occupancy, heat gains, construction, and other conditions.

The calculation path

Floor length × width × ceiling height gives cubic volume.

Inputs that can change the answer

  • Length: Enter length in m.
  • Width: Enter width in m.
  • Ceiling height: Enter ceiling height in m.

Checks that stay outside the formula

Use the average ceiling height for sloped ceilings and note the approximation.

A practical order for entering the data

  1. Measure the room's length and width in metres.
  2. Enter the ceiling height, using a justified average only for a simple sloping ceiling.
  3. Read the cubic-metre or cubic-foot volume as a geometric input to further planning.

Engine check using the prefilled sample

Worked example: length = 4 m, width = 3.5 m and ceiling height = 2.7 m. Replace the sample dimensions with measurements from the room; split irregular areas into simpler sections where needed.

Results for these inputs

Room Volume Calculator — Questions about this room measurement

Can I use the average of two ceiling heights?

For a ceiling sloping uniformly across a rectangular floor, the average of the low and high heights represents its volume. Complex roof shapes need separate sections.

Is this a heating-system sizing result?

No. It is room volume, not a heat-loss calculation or equipment recommendation.
